Programma: The course is divided into two parts. The first one will focus on what has currently become the main instrument of Chinese foreign policy: the Belt and Road Initiative. It will critically address aims, rationale and mechanisms behind it assessing its historical background in the so called “Going out Policy”. It will also analyse its impact over the East Asian and Southeast Asian region. The second part will address the wider picture of contemporary China’s foreign policy and its main drivers, including national identity, national interests as defined by the Party-State, and the characteristics of the foreign policy process.
